Bandhavgarh Tiger Heaven

Bandhavgarh Tiger Heaven: Abode Of Lord Vishnu & Gonds

A range of cliffs neatly arranged as silos, covered with dense forests. Bare cliffs with shining rocks and bamboo clumps marshy grasslands, tall Sal stands, mixed forests and slithering rivulets mark the characteristic terrain of enchanting Bandhavgarh.

The turbulent history is another facet of this tiger reserve sketched in the scattered ruins a bloody tale of warring tribes and conquests and a fort gifted to brother Laxman a Ram Janki temple on the precipice overlooking the magnificent verdant reserve. Zoomorphic forms carved in stones of Lord Vishnu-timeless and esoteric that is Bandhavgarh.

Once the domain of erstwhile Maharajahs of Rewa, the reserve is now a conservation unit for tigers, but alongside many life forms as well the ecosystem gets a reprieve. Characteristically beautiful, the pristine jungles are visited by thousands of tourists round the year from far and wide.

The ecosystem is unique with high density of tigers that hunt in marshy grasslands. White tiger cub was found near the forests of the reserve fetching immense popularity. In the confines of steep cliffs are found breeding coves of the big cats.

Sesh Saiyya on the way to the fort is a twenty feet rock carved idol nurtured by an ancient pool with dense shrubs, herbs, and moss covered rocks fed by trickles of fresh mountain springs. Unique rock formations, temples, manmade caves, shelters, stables, idols abound and are the highlights of this unique habitat on a game ride.

A real tiger heaven, an amazing biodiversity hub the paradise is home to many life forms. Tiger, leopard, sloth bear, wild dog and bison are chief attraction. Avian abound, the reptiles are elusive and butterflies teem. Bird life specially is remarkable with more than two hundred fifty species found throughout the seasons. A birder’s paradise, little is known about it, the fact suppressed by the popularity of big cats.

Bandhavgarh is an exciting tiger safari destination a must visit for wildlife lovers, photographers and the holiday makers as well.
